Operation Time

The East Mesa Justice Court is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  The court is closed on certain holidays.  If you believe that you have a court date on a holiday, call the court to make sure it is closed.  You may pay in person at the East Mesa Justice Court. Payments by cash, personal check, money order, or cashiers/certified check are accepted. You may also pay by credit card using the phone number provided.

What To Do When You Arrive At the East Mesa Justice Court

Once parked, walk to the eastern side of the building to the front doors.  Take everything out of your pockets, take off your belt and go through security.  You will then turn right and head up the stairs.  Once you are on the second floor you will take your first right and will see the sign for EAST MESA.  One of the staff of East Mesa Justice Court will check you in.  The staff member will instruct you as to where to take a seat and wait.  If you have hired a private attorney, wait for them in the courtroom or as instructed.  If you have not hired an attorney, then wait for the Judge, Clerk or Prosecutor to call your name.

Steps To Take Once In The East Mesa Justice Courtroom

When you arrive to the East Mesa Justice courtroom, go through the door, sit down and stay quiet.  If there is a clipboard, you should sign in.  The cases will be called by the order of the list.  You do not want to wait hours to then realize that you needed to sign in.  If you have hired a private attorney, wait for them in the courtroom or as instructed.  If you have not hired an attorney, then wait for the Judge, Clerk or Prosecutor to call your name.

Dress Code at East Mesa Justice Court

Suits and ties are not needed for the East Mesa Justice Court but can be worn.  Use good judgment and dress appropriately to show respect to the Judge.  A good, first impression cannot hurt.  Dove Law Firm recommends that you wear “Business Casual” such as a dress shirt, polo shirt, slacks, or nice jeans.  The Ease Mesa Judge allows cell phones to be brought into the courtroom but only if they are turned to silent or off.

What happens at the first hearing in East Mesa Justice Court; Initial Appearances (IA):

Unless you hire an attorney, you must appear at the East Mesa Justice Court Initial Appearance.  If you do not show, a warrant or order to show cause may be issued by the presiding judge.  During the Initial Appearance, a judge will advise the defendants of their charges and will address release conditions.  It is at this point that you will plead guilty or not guilty.  If you plead not guilty, then you will be given a new court date about a month in the future, called a pretrial conference.
