The West Mesa Justice Court is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  The court is closed on certain holidays.  If you believe that you have a court date on a holiday, call the court to make sure it is closed. You may pay in person at the West Mesa Justice Court. Payments by cash, personal check, money order, or cashiers/certified check are accepted. You may also pay by credit card using the phone number provided.

Where To Park At West Mesa Justice Court

The parking is free at the West Mesa Justice Court.  There is a small parking lot on the north side of the building.  There is always non-covered parking spaces available and they do not have time limits.  There is an additional parking lot to the east of the parking lot that is usually empty because of the vacancy of the strip mall.

What To Do When You Arrive At the West Mesa Justice Court

Once parked, walk to the northern side of the building to the front doors.  Take everything out of your pockets, take off your belt and go through security.  You will check in with the front desk on the left-hand side.  There may be a line, but there are usually two different clerks working.  One of the staff will check you in and tell you to have a seat in the courtroom.  There is only one courtroom.  Go through the door and take a seat.  If there is a clipboard it should be located at the front of the courtroom on a table.  You should sign in as at time, the cases will be called by the order of the list.  If you have hired a private attorney, wait for them in the courtroom or as instructed.  If you have not hired an attorney, then wait for the Judge, Clerk or Prosecutor to call your name.

What Happens At The First Municipal Court Hearing?

What happens at the first hearing in West Mesa Justice Court; Initial Appearances (IA):

Unless you hire an attorney, you must appear at the Initial Appearance in West Mesa Justice Court.  If you do not show, a warrant or order to show cause may be issued by the presiding judge.  During the Initial Appearance, a judge will advise the defendants of their charges and will address release conditions.  It is at this point that you will plead guilty or not guilty.  If you plead not guilty, then you will be given a new court date about a month in the future, called a pretrial conference.

If the case is not resolved by that time, the judge will set it for trial.
