Where To Park At San Marcos Justice Court

San Marcos Justice Court has great public parking.  The parking is free.  There is a small parking lot in front of the building and more parking on the east side of the building.  If these are full, which is rare, you can park across the street at the City of Chandler Municipal Court parking lot, which offers covered parking.  None of the above-mentioned parking lots have time limits.

What To Do When You Arrive At the San Marcos Justice Court

Once parked, head through the front doors of the San Marcos Justice Courthouse.  Take everything out of your pockets, take off your belt and go through security.  The four Chandler Justice Courts each have 1-2 windows, where you can check in.  There may be a line.  The person that helps you will usually check you in and tell you to have a seat in the courtroom.  All courtrooms are down the same hallway, past the bathrooms.

When you arrive to the San Marcos Justice courtroom, go through the door, sit down and stay quiet.  If there is a clipboard, you should sign in.  The cases will be called by the order of the list.  You do not want to wait hours to then realize that you needed to sign in.  If you have hired a private attorney, wait for them in the courtroom or as instructed.  If you have not hired an attorney, then wait for the Judge, Clerk or Prosecutor to call your name.

You do not need to wear a suit and tie in the San Marcos Justice Court.  However, use common sense and dress appropriately to show respect to the judge. You never know what a good impression can do for your case. It is recommended that “Business Casual” is worn such as a dress shirt, polo shirt, slacks or nice jeans. Few judges have banned cell phones in the courtroom.  Most allow cell phones to be used but ask that the phones are turned to silent/vibrate. To be safe, turn it off.

What Happens At The First Hearing in San Marcos Justice Court?

Unless you hire an attorney, you must appear at the Initial Appearance in San Marcos Justice Court.  If you do not show, a warrant or order to show cause may be issued by the presiding judge.  During the Initial Appearance, a judge will advise the defendants of their charges and will address release conditions.  It is at this point that you will plead guilty or not guilty.  If you plead not guilty, then you will be given a new court date about a month in the future, called a pretrial conference.

If the case is not resolved by that time, the judge will set it for trial.
